S.O. Sew Dressmaking
Are you ready to take your first steps into dressmaking?
During this 1 day workshop you will make the Emily Dress or Top, the perfect pattern for beginners to learn the key skills for dressmaking.
Key Skills -
- How to read a pattern,
- How to choose your size,
- How to apply interfacing,
- Important steps like understitching,
- Sewing darts,
- Gathering,
- Setting in sleeves.
You will need to bring your sewing machine, tools (i.e scissors, pins, etc.), suitable fabric, thread and lunch.
The interfacing, pattern and instructions will be provided, along with tea/coffee and snacks.
If you cannot source your own fabric please get in touch and we can supply this for you for an extra charge.
Suitable fabrics - lightweight cotton (lawn or poplin), viscose, modal, tencel, cupro, linen. Fabrics under 200gsm are suitable.
Level - Beginners. You will need to be confident using a sewing machine but no prior dressmaking skills are required.
Dates - 23rd May 2026
Time- 10am-6pm
Location - Dan Rice Hall, Drumaness
Price - £160 in total, £50 deposit required initially with remaining balance paid prior to the workshop (this can be paid in installments).
*Please note depending on how quickly the class progresses you may have some steps to finish working on at home.
